A Journey in Advanced Foot Care

Kim’s nursing career began at Loyalist College, where she graduated in 2014 after earning recognition on the Dean’s List. She spent the first five years of her career working in long-term care, developing strong clinical skills and a deep appreciation for the importance of maintaining health, mobility and independence throughout every stage of life.

Her experience caring for older adults highlighted the growing need for accessible, professional foot care—particularly for seniors and people living with diabetes and other conditions that can place their feet at increased risk. This inspired Kim to pursue advanced education in nursing foot care and, in 2019, she founded Best Foot Forward in Carleton Place.

From the beginning, Kim’s goal was to provide more than routine nail care. She wanted patients to have access to comprehensive foot care focused on prevention, early identification of concerns, comfort, mobility and long-term foot health. She has since completed extensive education and advanced training in areas including Advanced and Diabetic Foot Care, ingrown toenail management, fungal nail care, nail bracing and Onyfix, compression therapy, photodynamic therapy, Swift Microwave Therapy, podiatry burr and drill techniques, Policy and Procedure writing, Infection Control procedures, and nail reconstruction

Kim is also a Clinical Educator in partnership with the AFCN Learning Institute, where she supports nurses completing advanced foot care education through hands-on clinical training. She helps nurses develop practical skills, clinical judgment and confidence while emphasizing comprehensive assessment, infection prevention and control, safe instrument use, diabetic and high-risk foot care, documentation and evidence-based practice. This role allows Kim to combine her passion for nursing education with her commitment to advancing the standard of foot care within the profession.

As her practice grew, Kim became increasingly interested in the relationship between foot health, mobility and the musculoskeletal system. This led to the next evolution of her practice and, in 2022, she partnered with chiropractor Dr. Sam Cooper to establish FIT Healthcare — Functional Integrated Therapies.

Today, FIT Healthcare brings Medical Foot Care, Chiropractic Care, Physiotherapy and Registered Massage Therapy together under one roof in Carleton Place. As Clinic Co-Founder and an Advanced and Diabetic Foot Care Nurse, Kim continues to develop FIT’s medical foot care program while providing individualized, evidence-based care designed to support foot health, comfort, mobility and independence.
